David Byrne - Mona Foma

Former Talking Heads front-man and celebrated multimedia artist David Byrne will headline Hobart’s MONA FOMA festival (Festival of Music & Art) in January.

An Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe award-winner, 60-year-old Byrne is best known as the founder of avant-garde US new-wave band Talking Heads, one of the most critically acclaimed acts of the 1980s.

After Talking Heads split in 1991, Byrne released many solo and collaborative recordings, while also working on various projects involving film, photography, opera and writing.

Joined by New York singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist St Vincent, Byrne will perform in Hobart’s Princes Wharf  No. 1 shed on January 20, 2012 as part of the city’s fifth MONA FOMA.

MOFO curator Brian Ritchie was thrilled to have finally landed Byrne for the festival, having tried to secure his signature since 2009.

“I think he’s the perfect artist for MOFO, because he crosses all these different fields of endeavour while always maintaining a freshness to his work,” Ritchie said.

Tickets will go on sale from mofo.net.au when the full MOFO program is announced on October 5.
